The shift to zero-emission public transport in Europe is accelerating, driven by regulatory pressure and new financing tools. At Busworld Europe 2025, underway in Brussels from 4 to 9 October, E-GAP is presenting its Fleet-as-a-Service (FaaS) model as a turnkey solution for fleet electrification.

Fleet-as-a-Service model for public transport

“In recent years, several European countries have adopted models similar to FaaS, supported by infrastructure funds, green bonds and public guarantees. These initiatives, which have enabled the financing of electric buses and fleets, trams, digital ticketing systems and MaaS platforms, confirm that FaaS is one of the most successful solutions for fleet decarbonisation. However, many providers of this model focus on individual aspects of the transition: some on electric vehicles, others only on infrastructure. These are partial approaches that do not cover the entire fleet electrification cycle”, E-GAP states.

Unlike partial approaches focused only on vehicles or infrastructure, the Italian company offers an integrated ecosystem: electric buses, depot electrification, mobile charging, digital services, financing, and battery lifecycle management. Operators access the service through a flexible monthly fee, with no upfront investment, while E-GAP assumes operational risk and ensures asset performance.

The first Italian Fleet-as-a-Service project, launched by E-GAP in Rome, confirms the technical and financial viability of the model. The initiative includes the supply of over 250 electric buses and more than 100 high-power charging points (PoCs), which guarantee fast charging powered entirely by certified renewable energy.

To make this cutting-edge project possible, a total investment of approximately €100 million was made, allowing operators to access the project without initial investment, benefiting from a modular turnkey solution that integrates all the activities necessary for fleet electrification – from the supply of electric vehicles to charging infrastructure, to maintenance services and intelligent fleet management – significantly reducing costs and fully meeting public ESG requirements.

According to E-GAP, this pioneering project demonstrates how FaaS can simplify and accelerate the transition to electric mobility, setting a new standard for sustainable urban transport in Italy and beyond.
