Cummins announces it will be delivering a hydrogen internal combustion engine to Anadolu Isuzu in 2025 for prototype testing on the Kendo intercity bus. Anadolu Isuzu will also review integrating this engine into other models in its portfolio, including in city buses, Cummins states in a press note.
As just mentioned, the Cummins B6.7H (which is displayed of Cummins’ booth at Busworld 2025) will be tested by Anadolu Isuzu in the 13-metre Kendo, usually powered by a Cummins L9N natural gas engine. So far, Cummins has supplied Isuzu with almost 5,000 engines in more than a decade. Engines are manufactured at Cummins’ Darlington Engine Plant in the UK and delivered to Anadolu Isuzu’s production facility in Kocaeli, Türkiye.

Cummins’ B6.7H, rated at 216 kW (290 hp) with 1,200 Nm peak torque, is designed to deliver diesel-like performance using zero-carbon hydrogen fuel. The engine is targeted at heavier-duty applications that require long operational ranges, and initial tests indicate it achieves over a 99% reduction in tailpipe carbon emissions along with ultra-low NOx compared with current Euro VI diesel standards, Cummins says.

Cummins and Anadolu Isuzu will collaborate on the integration of the B6.7H into a Kendo bus, with both organisations calling on existing expertise in developing natural gas-power – and powered – vehicles around the world. Anadolu Isuzu plans to conduct vehicle-level tests throughout 2026.
Cenk Yavuz, Director for Cummins Europe Bus Business, said: “This is an exciting moment in the development of hydrogen internal combustion engine technology. There is not a product like this currently available in the bus and coach market, and we have customer demand for natural gas-like performance with significantly reduced emissions. We can fulfil this with internal combustion engine technology, optimised to run on zero-carbon hydrogen fuel. Anadolu Isuzu is a long-term partner for Cummins, so it’s fantastic to extend this further as we push the development of future technologies together”.
