Shuttle buses from Milan to Bergamo Orio al Serio airport are set to be electrified by the beginning of Milano  Cortina 2026 Winter Games. The goal has been established by giant airport bus operator Terravision. By 2026 also the rail link between Orio al Serio and the city should be completed.

The news is reported on daily newspaper Corriere della Sera. No further information about number of vehicles or roadmap have been released so far. What is known so far is that, still quoting from the newspaper, Terravision “has already requested two working and planning meetings with the operators of Orio al Serio, which were held at the end of last year, and which are in line with negotiations already opened with other Italian airports”.

Milan – Bergamo airport on electric buses by 2026

Concerning evolution of Milan – Bergamo airport connections Tullio Mastrangelo, general director of Terravision electric limited, is quoted as saying by Corriere della Sera: “In about 10 years, starting in 2012, Terravision has transported 6 million passengers between Milan and Orio. We think about how much car movement has been saved, but above all, looking to the future, we look at the prospect that such an impressive slice of travel can take place in a green and sustainable way”.

The newspaper sums up that “The latest Sacbo (the company that manages Bergamo airport) balance sheet says that in 2021 there were almost 6.5 million passengers, which is more than 70 per cent more than in the first year of the pandemic, although still about half the pre-Cvid levels. The first half of 2021, however, was still heavily constrained by infection containment regulations, and in fact in the first five months of 2022 alone there were already more than 4.5 million passengers at Orio, six and a half times more than in the same period the previous year”.
