The city of Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, will expand its electric bus fleet with the purchase of 16 new battery-electric vehicles as part of a project co-financed by the European Union.

The investment includes six 18-metre articulated buses, five 12-metre buses, and five 9-metre buses, according to a press note by the Slovenian government.

The initiative is part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027, under the priority “Sustainable Urban Mobility,” and addresses the specific objective of promoting sustainable multimodal transport in urban areas.

The total value of the project is €11,567,519.30, with €3.5 million funded by the European Union. The new vehicles will replace older diesel buses, enabling continuous provision of public transport services while reducing emissions and improving air quality in the city.
