Switch Mobility announced today introduction of two new electric bus models, namely EiV12 and E1, the latter being headed to Europe. The EiV12, on the other hand, focuses on the Indian market and has reportedly received already 1,800 units ordered from cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

Switch also announced that it has invested around 100 crore in the development of the EiV12 and plans to invest an additional $10-15 million in the E1 platform in Europe.

While Switch Mobility is an established player in the Indian market, it had apparently halted projects in Europe, where the group was supposed to build a production facility in Spain. Oddly enough, the same E1 model was launched in 2022 and never marketed in the continent. It’s unclear wether the model presented today share the same specifications or is the outcome of a new project. And the same EiV12 was presented in 2022

Switch E1 and EiV12 launched

Switch Mobility expects the electric city bus market in India to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21% by 2030, with an estimated 70% penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in this segment.

The Switch E1 is designed for the European market, featuring a lightweight monocoque construction and in-wheel motors. It has a flat gangway layout throughout the bus, with a triple-door design (front, center, and rear). The bus can accommodate up to 93 passengers, including standing passengers.

The Switch EiV12, which is aimed at the Indian market, is India’s first low-floor city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, Switch Mobility states. The bus has a scalable battery capacity of over 400 kWh and features an indigenously designed platform. It offers seating for up to 39 passengers.

The bus is equipped with a low-floor entry and a kneeling mechanism, which facilitates easier access. It also includes an automated wheelchair ramp for passengers with disabilities. The EiV12 is fitted with five CCTV cameras to eliminate blind spots and includes five designated seats for women.
