German public transport operator Bogestra (Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen) is going to build a new e-bus depot that will be able to accomodate up to 120 e-buses by end fo the decade. The carrier itself is announcing the plan with a press note stating that the Agn Group was recently awarded the contract to take on the general planning for the site. The operator has been operating BYD e-buses since 2020, being the first German public transport company to roll them out.

Bogestra: a new depot for up to 160 e-buses

The new depot, Bogestra states, is to be built on a site on Essener Straße opposite the tram depot. In addition to parking and charging facilities, a workshop is also planned on the site, replacing the locations in Witten and Bochum-Weitmar.

According to trade agency Electrive, the area involved in the planning is a former Thyssenkrupp site whose landowner, the Essen-based Thelen Group, “is making the site available to Bogestra on a long-term lease. The owner is currently still carrying out preparatory work on site, which is why Bogestra does not expect construction to begin before 2027”.

Bogestra underlines that the plan is to build and commission the depot by the end of the decade. In a first step, there will be space for 120 e-buses. In a second construction phase, the capacity could increase to 160 buses
