Finnish DC fast-charging manufacturer Kempower announces it is set to power a major new electric bus depot in Bayswater, Perth, with charging capacity for 132 buses, together with Charge Hub, Addelec and Swan Group.

Kempower: a electric bus depot in Perth

The brand-new electric bus depot is under construction in Bayswater to support the growth of Western Australia’s electric public transport fleet. The new facility will be one of the largest electric bus depots in the state and will be equipped with Kempower’s high-performance DC charging technology, the provider states.

During the first stage of the project, charging infrastructure will be delivered to 132 buses with operations starting in mid-2026. The depot has been designed to scale up over time, with an ultimate capacity to support 180 buses. Kempower’s flexible and modular system will enable dynamic power distribution across the site, allowing overnight charging that supports smooth day-to-day public transport operations, is stated.

The project is being delivered by Kempower’s long-term Australian partner, Charge Hub, in close collaboration with the local installation partner Addelec and the site delivery specialists at Swan Group. Charge Hub is managing the importing, technical compliance and commissioning of the charging infrastructure rollout, to support Addelec to ensure a solution that aligns with the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) operational goals.

Addelec is leading the installation process, while Swan Group is handling on-site delivery, construction and project execution. Together, the partners are building a safe, efficient and scalable depot that meets the needs of both the PTA and the contracted bus service provider.

“The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia are demonstrating clear leadership and dedication through their planning and commitment to deliver on their statewide electrification strategy. Charge Hub fully supports their approach by establishing our new local office and working closely with Addelec and Swan Group to successfully deliver the Baywater depot.” says Paul Guy, Managing Director from Charge Hub.

“The Bayswater project marks another important milestone in our mission to support Australia’s decarbonization journey. We’re honored to have been selected by the PTA for another iconic project, which reaffirms our strategy of investing in people, products, and solutions to support large infrastructure across its entire lifecycle.”, says Carlo Cecchi, Director of New Markets from Kempower.
