Germany recorded 270 new battery-electric buses over 8 tons in the first quarter of 2025, according to data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority KBA covered by German trade media omnibus.news. Once again, Daimler Buses leads the ranking with 131 eCitaro registrations, maintaining its dominant position in the domestic and European markets.

Looking at the registrations figures, battery-electric bus registrations in Germany grew significantly in the first quarter of 2025, reaching 270 units — a 68.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 165 battery-electric buses over 3.5 tonnes were newly registered. A total of 561 new buses with alternative propulsion systems were registered between January and March 2025, up from 403 in the same period last year: +40%.

MCV reached double-digit registrations

MAN secures second place with 89 new Lion’s City E buses registered. The Munich-based manufacturer is staging a comeback after delivery delays in late 2024, reportedly caused by internal software changes, as the German media states. Those units are now being registered, helping MAN narrow the gap. April alone saw 58 new MAN electric buses delivered, compared to 66 eCitaro units from Mercedes-Benz.

Solaris returns to third position, with a noticeable uptick in monthly registrations. What is also interesting, BYD climbed from fifth to fourth place within just three months and MCV reached double-digit registrations.
