MAN Truck & Bus Italia has celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026 alongside a third consecutive year of record financial results.
The milestone marked four decades since the establishment of the Italian subsidiary on 4 June 1986, during which MAN Truck & Bus Italia developed into one of the group’s main European operations. Italy represents a key market within the company’s regional structure, ranking as the fifth-largest truck market in Europe with more than 25,000 units sold annually, and the fourth-largest van market.
By 2026, nine new sites are scheduled to be established in Italy. More than half of the existing MAN Centres are already equipped to service electric vehicles.
To mark the occasion, an anniversary book has been published, documenting the defining milestones of four decades of MAN in Italy. The book is authored by Alberto Gimmelli, who has been working with our media group Vado e Torno edizioni for many years.
MAN Italia at 40 years: market positioning and growth trajectory
In 2025, MAN Truck & Bus Italia recorded a turnover of €617 million, representing an 11 per cent increase compared to the previous year and marking the third consecutive annual record. In the truck segment above six tonnes, the company reached a market share of 10.2 per cent, exceeding the double-digit threshold for the first time. The van segment also registered record volumes, with 1,755 units sold and a market share of 2.4 per cent. The bus business returned to growth, MAN states, while in the heavy-duty electric truck segment MAN reached the position of second-largest manufacturer in the Italian market.
In fact, based on market data, MAN has retained one of the leading position in the Italian market with 257 registrations of buses and coaches weighing over 8 tonnes (fourth place), remaining firmly on the podium – with a 15% market share – in the coach segment, thanks in part to the Neoplan brand (156 registrations in total).
Over the past four decades, MAN Truck & Bus Italia states it has expanded its presence through the development of a nationwide dealer and service network, alongside continued investment in infrastructure and workforce. The subsidiary operates within a market environment characterised by high volumes in both truck and van segments, with Italy maintaining a central role in the European commercial vehicle landscape.
“40 years of MAN Italia means 40 years of shared success. We are celebrating this anniversary with pride – and with a clear focus on the future,” says Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus SE. “The record results in 2025 reflect the strength of our organisation, the quality of our own network and that of our partners, and the trust of our customers. We are kicking off our anniversary year with great energy and the ambition to position MAN Italia strongly for the decades to come.”
