Daimler Buses will introduce the Mercedes Conecto in Germany from mid-2027, expanding its city bus portfolio for private-sector operators and leveraging the manufacturing cooperation with Otokar announced in September 2025.
The move marks an extension of Daimler Buses’ product offering in its domestic market, adding a model positioned for standardised urban operations alongside the existing Citaro range. The introduction responds to demand in the private-sector city bus segment and aligns with the company’s broader portfolio strategy, according to a press note by Daimler Truck.
Deliveries for the German market are scheduled to begin in mid-2027.
Mercedes Conecto positioned alongside Citaro in Daimler portfolio
The Mercedes Conecto has been deployed for several years across multiple European markets and will now be made available in Germany. Its positioning within the Daimler Buses range establishes a clear technical and commercial distinction from the Citaro, which remains dedicated to complex configurations, customised specifications and public tenders.
Production, Daimler points out, is carried out through a cooperation with Turkish manufacturer Otokar. Daimler Buses supplies key vehicle components and dedicated production equipment to Otokar’s facility, where manufacturing is supported by Daimler personnel on site. This arrangement provides additional production capacity and flexibility for the group.
The Conecto is designed for more standardised applications, including school transport, replacement capacity and conventional urban line services. It will be offered as a 12-metre solo bus and as an articulated variant, covering the most common operational requirements in city transport. A hybrid version with 48-V low-voltage technology is also included in the offering.
Operators requiring fewer configuration options compared to the Citaro will have access to a model aligned with functional deployment needs, while maintaining access to Daimler Buses’ service network, as stated in the press note by Daimler Truck.
In the solo configuration, the Conecto is equipped with the 7.7-litre OM 936 inline six-cylinder diesel engine, delivering 220 kW and 1,200 Nm of torque. The engine complies with Euro 6 E emissions standards and is also available in a hybridised version.
The articulated Conecto G features the 10.7-litre OM 470 Euro VI diesel engine, with an output of 265 kW and torque of 1,700 Nm.
