Nobina announces it has secured four HSL contracts in Helsinki covering 69 buses, the majority specified as fully electric.

The assignment is divided into four contracts, three of which will start operations in August 2027 with a duration of seven years plus a three-year extension option, while a fourth smaller contract covers six vehicles over two years with a possible two-year extension.

Electric buses central in HSL tender

The fleet composition specified in the contracts is predominantly electric, confirming the continued inclusion of zero-emission vehicles in HSL procurement rounds. The electric buses are intended for urban services within the Helsinki metropolitan area and are part of the authority’s requirements for low-emission operations, as stated in a Nobina press release.

The contracts define operational service provision, with Nobina responsible for running the routes under HSL’s regional transport system.

“We are very proud of the trust placed in us by HSL. Together, we continue to develop a sustainable, reliable, and modern public transport system for the Helsinki metropolitan area. Our joint efforts aim to strengthen the region’s attractiveness and the role of public transport in the green transition,” says Topi Simola, Managing Director, Nobina Finland.
