Following the plants in Starachowice, Poland, and Olifantsfontein, South Africa, a third facility has now been added in Ankara, Turkey: MAN has officially kicked off the production of its electric buses at its Turkish plant.
Here, not only the Lion’s City E will be produced (around 3,300 units have already been built and delivered so far), but also the Lion’s Coach 14 E, the first fully electric coach not only for MAN, but for a European manufacturer (with the exception of Irizar’s FCEV).

After the start of production at the Starachowice plant in Poland – with thousands of e-buses delivered since 2020 – the “electric lions” are now rolling off the production line in the Turkish capital as well. At the Olifantsfontein site in South Africa, MAN instead produces the Lion’s Explorer E, an e-bus designed for the South African market.

“With the launch of e-bus production in Ankara, we are setting a significant milestone on our path to electromobility,” says Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus, adding: “We are expanding our production capacities, strengthening our global bus network, and can meet rising customer demands even faster and more flexibly. Ankara will play a key role in our e-mobility strategy going forward.”
“Ankara is developing into one of MAN’s central e-mobility hubs. Thanks to our flexible production structure, we can manufacture both various electric bus models and conventionally powered buses on the same production line. This enables us to respond efficiently to different market requirements,” emphasizes Mehmet Şermet, Head of Production Bus at MAN Truck & Bus.
