Valmet Automotive and Jeti Industries have signed a preliminary agreement for the serial production of modular electric buses at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant in Finland.
The agreement, announced on 10 February 2026, establishes the framework for potential contract manufacturing of electric buses for city and regional transport in a modern automotive production environment.
According to a press release by Valmet Automotive, the project would represent the first production of electric buses in the Nordic countries within a contract manufacturing model at an established automotive plant. Negotiations on the final agreements are currently underway, as stated by the companies.
Valmet – Jeti electric bus production coming
Valmet Automotive is a Finnish automotive contract manufacturer with long-standing experience in the serial production of complex vehicles, including electric and electrified models, operating industrial-scale facilities in Finland. Jeti Industries is a Finnish technology company focused on the development of modular electric buses for public transport applications, with EU type-approved vehicles already deployed in pilot operations and supported by a network of European technology partners.
Under the preliminary agreement, Valmet Automotive would provide serial production capabilities at its Uusikaupunki facility, applying automotive manufacturing processes, quality systems, and experience in vehicle assembly. The company confirmed that the initiative is aligned with its strategy, announced in September 2025, to extend its industrial production expertise beyond passenger car manufacturing. The production of the Valmet – Jeti electric bus would rely on the company’s existing electrification competence and industrial infrastructure, according to the press release by Valmet Automotive.
Jeti Industries would contribute its modular electric bus platform, developed for public transport applications. The company reports that its electric buses are type-approved for operation within the European Union and have been piloted in real-world public transport services, with the first vehicle entering service in 2020. Individual units have already been manufactured, while the proposed cooperation is intended to enable serial production at higher volumes.
According to the companies, electric buses manufactured in Uusikaupunki would feature a high degree of domestic content in both components and labour. Beyond final assembly, production would involve a network of Finnish subcontractors, contributing to the local automotive value chain. The press release by Valmet Automotive highlights that the project would support European manufacturing in the context of current regulatory requirements related to supply chain transparency and safety standards.
No production volumes, timelines, or commercial terms have been disclosed at this stage. Both companies confirm that negotiations on the final agreement are ongoing, following the signing of the preliminary framework for the valment jeti electric bus project.
Pasi Rannus, CEO of Valmet Automotive, said: “This preliminary agreement is another concrete step in advancing our strategy of expanding into new industries. Given our history in car manufacturing, producing zero-emission electric buses for next-generation mobility is a logical step for us and a continuation of our long-standing expertise in manufacturing electric vehicles. Jeti Industries has developed an excellent product innovation with an existing, international market. We are excited to participate in the development of novel mobility solutions and to enable the serial production of a Finnish high-tech product.”
Niko Andersson, CEO of Jeti Industries, said: “The electrification of European bus transport is progressing very rapidly, and there is a clear need in the market for electric buses manufactured in Europe. We have been developing our modular product concept with a long-term perspective, and our innovative technical solutions make our products highly price-competitive in this growing market. Valmet Automotive’s long-term experience in serial manufacturing of a wide range of complex vehicles enables us to scale production quickly and reliably. This collaboration is also supported by our shared commitment to sustainability and environmental values.”
