VDL Bus Group has unveiled the new VDL Futura 3, presented to the press on 2 October ahead of its public premiere at Busworld 2025 in Brussels (4–9 October). The third generation of the Dutch manufacturer’s coach introduces lower operating costs, claiming fuel savings of up to 15%, new safety systems, and an updated design for both passengers and drivers.

The launch of VDL Futura 3 had in fact been anticipated for some time. Back in September 2023, VDL showed a mock-up under the project name Vision Futura — signaling the promise of a new generation coach

According to VDL, the Futura 3 combines aerodynamic efficiency, reduced weight and advanced vehicle technology to lower Total Cost of Ownership. The interior has been redesigned to improve comfort, with ambient lighting, new seating solutions and premium materials, while the driver benefits from a reworked cockpit and optimised ergonomics.

Safety is addressed with the latest generation of ADAS, improved sightlines and structural reinforcements. A newly engineered climate control system delivers quieter, more efficient performance, while modular components and easier maintenance access further contribute to reduced lifecycle costs.

The launch of the VDL Futura 3 also marks the first Busworld appearance of the integrated VDL Bus Group, bringing together VDL Bus & Coach and VDL Van Hool under a single brand.

“We are proud of our employees who showed their craftsmanship during the development as well as the production of this new flagship,” said Marc van Doorn, Managing Director Coach of VDL Bus Group during the presentation of the VDL Futura 3 in Brussels. “We are very confident that with this third-generation VDL Futura, we are going to offer our customers, their passengers and their drivers an optimal travel experience.”
