Wrightbus announces it has been ranked the number one supplier in a public sector procurement framework issued in the UK and covering buses and coaches with more than 36 seats.

According to a press release by Wrightbus, the manufacturer secured the top position in Lot 4 of The Procurement Partnership Limited (TPPL) passenger transport framework TPPLPSBUS01, which includes procurement of buses and coaches across multiple propulsion technologies and vehicle configurations.

The framework covers vehicles powered by hydrogen, battery-electric and diesel technologies, as well as different bus formats including single-deck, double-deck, articulated and 6×2 models, Wrightbus explains.

In 2025 Wrightbus rankded among the leading manufacturers in the European battery-electric bus market, recording 921 e-bus registrations across EU27, the UK, EFTA countries and Norway. This places the company sixth in the market with an 11.1% share. The company previously announced that they expected 1,200 buses produced during 2025.

Framework used by public sector buyers

TPPL operates procurement frameworks used by public sector organisations across the United Kingdom. The organisation works with more than 250 suppliers and provides procurement solutions for hundreds of public authorities and operators.

Framework agreements are designed to streamline procurement processes by allowing public buyers to purchase vehicles without conducting a full open tender. According to the press release, the platform also includes an incentive mechanism whereby purchases of zero-emission vehicles generate a 0.25 percent return of the contract value to the purchasing authority.

Founded in 1946, Wrightbus employs around 2,300 people across its operations and supports approximately 7,500 jobs across its supply chain. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Northern Ireland and Malaysia, alongside a service centre in Germany and sales operations across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Wrightbus manufactures battery-electric, hydrogen and diesel buses and developed the hydrogen double-decker bus, as well as the New Routemaster for London. The company also operates NewPower, a repowering and refurbishment facility located in Oxfordshire.

Chris Martin, Head of Business Development in the UK for Wrightbus, said: “We have worked incredibly hard across our operations to ensure Wrightbus is the name on everyone’s lips when it comes to buying buses and coaches. However, getting endorsements from outside amplifies our efforts even more, and we are grateful to everyone at TPPL for recognising this.”

James Brennan, Managing Director of TPPL, adds: “Wrightbus put forward a bid reflecting the quality and capability of their vehicles, which has resulted in them being ranked number one within lot 4 of the new TPPL passenger transport framework agreement. While price and vehicle suitability are key factors; reliability, warranty, in-life support, and after-sales provision are essential for public buyers to select the right product from the most suitable supplier. This ensures the effective delivery of key public services, which are central to all our communities. The UK bus industry is in safe hands with companies like Wrightbus at the helm.”
