Egyptian bus OEM Geyushi announces advancements of a major diesel-to-CNG retrofitting project in Cairo and Alexandria: as many as 2,262 are involved in the conversion process.

Such a project leverages on Egypt’s abundant natural gas resources and sees Geyushi working in partnership with the Ministry of Local Development, the Ministry of Military Production, and the Ministry of Petroleum’s companies Cargas and Gastec.

Geyushi took part to Busworld Europe 2023

Geyshi took part to latest Busworld Europe in Brussels (October 2023). Based in the Egyptian capital city Cairo, and founded in 2020 following a factory acquisition in 2017, Geyushi offers a wide range of diesel, CNG and electric buses, from mini buses to 12-metre buses, with a yearly production up to 5,000 units.

Main targeted markets are Middle East and Africa, with Geyushi CEO Khaled Geyushi saying at Busworld that “Africa holds the key to the future of our company success and excellent market for sustainable transportation”. At the expo Geyushi introduced a coach based on MAN chassis, which marked the starting point of the cooperation with the German OEM. Also a 12-meter electric bus (Geyushi Eco) based on Chinese-made chassis (batteries by CATL – maximum capacity 373 kWh – max seats 49) was presented.

Geyushi CNG bus retrofitting project in Egypt

The project involves six stages, each handling 377 buses. Stage 1 has been completed and Stage 2 is about to begin, Geyushi states. The manufacturer stresses that the initiative is focused on replacing outdated diesel engines with advanced CNG engines.

Geyushi’s role in this project encompasses the supply and integration of these new engines, working closely with both ZF and Voith to ensure that the new engines are integrated with the existing transmission software and electrical systems, adapting them to accommodate the CNG technology.
