A total of 105 18-metre electric buses built by Solaris are on their way to begin operations in Milan under ATM’s livery. By the end of 2026, all 105 will be in operation, strengthening the fleet of Milan’s public transport operator. The first are beginning operations in these days, ATM shared.

The partnership between Solaris and ATM in Milan began in 2014. Since then, the carrier has ordered nearly 500 vehicles from the manufacturer. Since 2018, Solaris has been supplying Milan solely with zero-emission vehicles (trolleybuses included).

The delivery of the 105 articulated Solaris e-buses was expected to begin in the first half of 2025. Also Iveco Bus has been winning a lot in the last tender issued by ATM (as we had anticipated in summer 2023).

Solaris Urbino electric 18-meter for ATM Milano

According to ATM, the 18-metre buses, equipped with mirrorcams, can carry up to 130 passengers. The first vehicles will enter service on routes 165, 166, 727, 728 and 729, connecting Milan with the nearby municipalities of Sesto San Giovanni, Limbiate and Cinisello Balsamo.

The order placed by ATM Milano involves the Urbino 18 electric model. This articulated Solaris e-bus will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of 700 kWh. Similar to previous e-buses delivered to Milan, the newly commissioned units will be charged through both a pantograph and plug-in technology. The urban infrastructure has been optimized to allow regular recharging using chargers placed along the route, ensuring a practically unlimited all-day driving range.
