EKA has just launched its first 9-metre pure electric and zero-emission bus named EKA E9. 

The 9-meter e-bus is based on monocoque stainless steel chassis and complete composite structure. With a stated Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) lower than existing Internal Combustion engine-powered buses, EKA E9 promises to deliver sustainability and profitability to all stakeholders. EKA is a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries.

1,000 EKA E9 e-buses planned in 2023

The bus was unveiled by Aaditya Thackeray, State Minister of Tourism and Environment and Sudhir Mehta, Chairman, EKA and Pinnacle Industries Limited at The Pune Alternate Fuel Conclave (AFC).

As reported on Express Mobility, Sudhir Mehta, chairman of EKA and  Pinnacle Industries, `said the company was talking to investors to raise `500 crore for the bus project. Pinnacle Industries has got approval to launch electric vehicle manufacturing under the production-linked incentives scheme and has committed to invest Rs 2,000 crore to set up EV manufacturing unit. Pinnacle has also received approval under the EV component manufacturing scheme of the government’s PLI policy. Mehta said they had already invested `150 crore in designing and developing the bus. The company plans to make 1,000 buses in FY23 with indigenously developed components and technology».

EKA E9 electric bus launched in India

EKA E9 comes with both front and rear air suspension with ECAS and is able to carry up to 31 passengers. It features a lowest 650 mm floor height.

EKA E9 is powered by an electric motor that generates maximum power of 200 KW and torque of 2500 Nm.

Speaking at the launch Sudhir Mehta, Chairman, EKA and Pinnacle Industries Ltd, said, “Our buses are designed and optimized to provide the best ride experience, cleaner environment, and best returns to the customers. With the new EKA E9, we offer a global platform for clean, efficient, and profitable public transport to meet the rising demand on important markets that are ready for the shift to electromobility.”
