A few days ago, the first Iveco Bus E-Way electric buses began service on the streets of Milan (Italy), is reported on Italian trade media – and our sister platform – Autobus (with pictures by social media page and website Passione Trasporti).
The manufacturer was awarded in late 2023 a supply of 153 electric buses, as Iveco won the 12-metre lot in the €120 million tender launched by Milan’s public transport company, on the strength of an industrial plan to electrify the entire fleet of 1,200 buses by 2030. By 2026, half the fleet is expected to be zero-emission. The 18-meter lot was awarded to Solaris (and deliveries have just begun).
But while the entry into service of the Solaris electric buses is not a major novelty, as the brand is already well established in the city, for Iveco it marks the first deployment of its BEV version in Milan.

Iveco Bus electric buses are operating in Milan
The Iveco Bus-made E-Way is the most registered 12-meter battery-powered buses in Italy: as of October 31, 293 models had been registered out of a total of 979 registrations.
The Iveco E-Way buses are in service on lines 39, 44, 55, 61, 62, and 87 operated by ATM Milano.
The contract awarded by ATM to Iveco Bus includes full service maintenance for ten years. The first deliveries were scheduled by the first quarter of 2025, but were slightly delayed. However, all remaining buses will be delivered by June 2026 in line with the timing required for the use of Next Generation EU fundings.
