Kreuzlingen is among the first Swiss cities to fully convert its urban bus network to electric operation. By mid-November 2025, eight Solaris Urbino electric buses will be in service, replacing the previous diesel fleet.

The new fleet features wood-shell seats designed for durability and ease of cleaning, USB charging ports between seats, and a cashless ticketing system that accepts TWINT and card payments.

The new Solaris Urbino fleet uses opportunity charging: smaller on-board batteries are recharged multiple times during the day via pantographs. Two charging stations will be installed by the end of the year at Kreuzlingen’s main railway station, drawing on electricity from renewable sources, as the city administration states in a press note.

According to City Councillor Ernst Zülle, the introduction of battery-electric buses is part of Kreuzlingen’s broader sustainability and energy strategy. “The electric fleet continues our efforts to implement a long-term climate policy for urban mobility,” he notes.

Operations are managed by EUROBUS Ostschweiz AG, Kreuzlingen’s long-term service partner for the past 20 years. “All eight vehicles will be operational by mid-November,” confirms Peter Wäspe, Managing Director of EUROBUS Ostschweiz.
