After Munich airport, MAN is providing e-buses also in Amsterdam Schiphol airport. 52 zero emission buses have just been commissioned, the airport reports, and are set to transport passengers between the aircraft and the terminal. MAN Truck & Bus has just been awarded the tender, that saw 5 OEMs bidding.

Just a few days ago Munich Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in Europe, has ordered a total of 49 electric buses from MAN Truck & Bus, with an option for a further 25 vehicles.

MAN provides electric buses in Schiphol

The new buses have three doors and a lower floor, the airport reports (although the pictures accompanying the release are of a MAN Lion’s City E Low Entry). As of April 2025, the new electric fleet will replace the previous generation of buses “that have now reached the end of their useful life”, in the words of Schiphol airport press note. Schiphol, in fact, has had a fully electric bus fleet for 10 years now (supplier was BYD) and was one of the first in the Netherlands to have that.

In addition, the rest area for drivers is being fully renovated at Schiphol airport. This more sustainable building “will not only conform to the highest standard when it comes to conditions for rest, but it will also be energy positive. This means that the building will generate more electricity than it uses. This highlights Schiphol’s commitment to improving the work environment for its employees and to minimising its carbon footprint”, the airport points out.

Sybren Hahn, Executive Director Infrastructure Schiphol, states: “We are proud that MAN is further expanding its cooperation with Schiphol in the field of passenger transport and that we are making a substantial contribution to the ambitious zero emission goals of our national airport”.

Tillo Smets, Sales Manager Public Transport MAN Nederland, says: “Looking to the future, the airport has an ambitious goal to be fully emission free in 2030. This means that all its own activities, including ground operations on and around the runways, will no longer produce any emissions”.
