Canadian transit agency OC Transpo has ordered 124 battery-electric buses from New Flyer. The order—comprising 40-foot Xcelsior CHARGE NG models—marks a substantial scale-up in the Canadian capital’s decarbonization strategy and reinforces New Flyer’s role as a key supplier in Canada’s transit electrification.

This latest procurement builds on a previous order of 51 buses placed in late 2023, bringing OC Transpo’s total investment in New Flyer’s electric platform to 175 units, as New Flyer announces. The new order was executed as an option call-off under a 2023 agreement between New Flyer and the Toronto Transit Commission and was part of New Flyer’s recorded backlog in the first quarter of 2025.

Serving the National Capital Region—across Ottawa, Ontario, and extending into Gatineau, Quebec—OC Transpo operates an integrated network that includes bus services and the O-Train light rail. With this new delivery, the agency takes a further step toward delivering quieter, cleaner, and more efficient service to a growing ridership.

Funding for the order is being supported by a mix of municipal investment and federal contributions, including financing from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and support through the Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s (HICC) Zero Emission Transit Fund (ZETF), designed to catalyze the deployment of zero-emission public transit solutions across the country.
