TMB Barcelona announces a new tender for 19 electric articulated buses. The buses on procurement are set to be charged via CCS2 plug-in technology overnight. They’ll replace other vehicles that are currently in circulation and will arrive at the end of their useful life in 2026.

TMB tenders articulated electric buses

Just a few days ago, TMB has also awarded an order for further 7 Irizar ie bus (12-meter version). The Basque manufacturer was awarded 29 units in late 2021. Also in early 2025, TMB tested a UNVI double-decker e-bus prior to delivery of 18 units. And also Yutong minibuses are joining the public transport fleet, following (as well as UNVI DD units) a tender issued in July 2024 for 23 new battery-electric buses.

As of end 2024, TMB had 196 e-buses and 46 fuel cell buses operating around the city of Barcelona.

The articulated e-bus tender establishes the supply in different phases over the course of 2026. The base budget for the tender is €18.4 million.

TMB president, Laia Bonet, has stated that “this new tender reaffirms our support for a fleet of buses with zero emissions” and has stressed that “the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in the TMB fleet has not increased the costs of providing more sustainable public transport”.
