From 19 to 21 May 2025, Seville became a key gathering point for the European mobility sector as the 16th ITS European Congress brought together over 3,000 participants to explore the future of intelligent transport systems (ITS). Under the theme “Clean, Resilient, and Connected Mobility,” the event offered a comprehensive platform for dialogue and innovation across digital and sustainable mobility.
Next edition will be held in Istanbul from 27 to 29th April 2026.
Organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe in collaboration with the European Commission, and hosted by the City of Seville, the Congress was supported by multiple Spanish institutions including the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Ministry of the Interior, the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), the Junta de Andalucía, and ITS España. This multi-level institutional support underscored Spain’s commitment to advancing connected and sustainable mobility across the continent.

ITS Congress Seville 2025, over 500 speakers
The Congress welcomed participants from 71 countries and featured over 150 sessions with more than 500 speakers. Key topics included Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM), the role of AI and digital tools in transport resilience, and the societal and regulatory frameworks shaping the future of urban and regional mobility.
The Opening Ceremony on 19 May 2025 at the FIBES Conference Centre featured addresses by leaders from both the public and private sectors. Speakers included José Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville; Dr. Angelos Amditis, Chairman of ERTICO – ITS Europe; Rocío Díaz Jiménez, Minister of Development of the Andalusia Regional Government; and Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, Spain’s Minister of the Interior. Contributions also came from Eric von Breska of DG MOVE and a recorded message from European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas. The session concluded with a high-level panel and keynote, followed by a welcome reception.
This year introduced the ITS Arena, an interactive space dedicated to hands-on dialogue between policymakers, public authorities, and industry stakeholders. Across 20+ sessions and 100 speakers, the Arena focused on real-world implementation of ITS solutions.
The Exhibition Hall featured over 140 exhibitors showcasing innovations in areas such as digital infrastructure, automated driving, and AI-enabled traffic systems. Attendees also participated in six live technology demonstrations and seven technical visits highlighting Seville’s mobility infrastructure.

Supported by over 14 commercial partners, the Congress facilitated high-level networking through events such as the Welcome Reception, the ERTICO Cocktail, and the ITS Dinner, which welcomed 400 guests at the Casino de la Exposición. More than 50 associations and 23 ITS National Partners took part, reflecting the broad ecosystem engaged in mobility innovation.
A broad platform for ITS professionals
Held on the opening day, the Smart Mobility Summit of Cities and Regions convened over 50 high-level representatives, including participants from 16 Mission Cities. Discussions addressed integrated transport, urban electrification, data governance, and aerial mobility services. The Summit reinforced the importance of collaboration, balanced policies, and investment in citizen-centred mobility.
A dedicated press conference featured voices from ERTICO, the City of Seville, the European Commission, DGT Andalusia, and industry stakeholders. Speakers emphasised the importance of inclusivity, public-private partnerships, and regional leadership in advancing intelligent transport systems.
The event concluded on 21 May with a Closing Ceremony that celebrated achievements and recognised excellence through awards for Best Research Paper, Best Technical Paper, and Best Rated Session. Chief Congress Rapporteur Prof. Eric Sampson summarised key takeaways and reflected on the evolution of ITS toward user-centric, resilient systems.
