Optibus has launched Optibus Agent, an AI agent designed specifically for public transportation planning, scheduling, dispatch and live operations.
Optibus announced the launch of Optibus Agent, describing it as the first AI agent purpose-built for public transportation. The new capability is integrated within the Optibus software platform and is intended to support transit operators and agencies across planning, scheduling, driver management, dispatch and operational monitoring.
According to Optibus, the Agent has been developed to address the complexity of public transportation operations, where route planning, vehicle allocation, driver scheduling, compliance requirements, budgets and service disruptions must be managed simultaneously. The company states that the technology is designed to automate high-friction operational tasks while providing users with operational insights based on data available within their systems.

Optibus Agent embedded across planning and operations
The new AI functionality is embedded throughout the Optibus platform and can be used during multiple stages of transit operations. Optibus states that the Agent has been trained on public transportation-specific processes and operational logic, drawing on experience accumulated through deployments in more than 7,000 cities worldwide.
Within planning and scheduling activities, users can ask the Agent to create balanced schedules aligned with business objectives, labor agreements and driver preferences. The system can also be used to evaluate routes and timetables based on passenger demand and operational requirements.
The company says that the Agent is designed to process operational variables and return recommendations tailored to a specific transit network.
Driver assignment, compliance and dispatch capabilities
Among the first capabilities released, Optibus Agent supports:
- Operational intelligence, enabling users to retrieve filtered operational data and explanations of scheduling outcomes.
- Driver assignment, including identification of available and qualified drivers for unassigned duties and last-minute call-outs.
- Compliance checking, allowing users to verify break requirements, overtime limits and other driver work rules.
- Real-time control and dispatch, including vehicle location, monitoring of service performance and communication with drivers.
The platform also incorporates operational intelligence functions intended to simplify data retrieval and analysis. Users can request filtered operational information, monitor activities performed by teams and obtain explanations related to scheduling outcomes generated within the system.
“Optibus is taking an AI-first approach to public transportation, and the launch of Optibus Agent marks a new era for our users. With AI integrated into every layer of the platform, public transportation professionals can perform complex work much faster and make decisions that build far better services. It’s your team’s expertise, multiplied by AI,” said Amos Haggiag, CEO and co-founder of Optibus.
