ATM Milano is introducing a network of sensors on 874 buses (both diesel-powered and electric) in order to monitor consumption and consequently reduce the use of energy. Goal: cutting carbon dioxide production by more than 4,000 tonnes per year, as reported on the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The tender for the supply and installation of the economy drive system has been awarded at the beginning of August to Bledsystem (that belongs to ADN Context Aware Mobile Solutions), that then becomes ATM’s eco-driving and operations efficiency system for the next 5 years.

As widely known, ATM Milano has the goal of switching the full fleet of 1,200 buses to zero emission by 2030. There are currently over 170 electric buses in circulation, with the target of reaching 250 by end 2022.

This is the right step to consolidate Bledsystem’s leadership in Europe and North Africa: every day more operators and world-class AVL integrators are partnering up with us. Italy, France, the UK, Germany and the Nordics are the natural follow-up markets in our forthcoming two-year expansion plan”.

Bledsystem: eco-driving for buses

Based in Spain, Bledsystem is a tech company with the mission of “helping public road transport operators to be more efficient and safe. It is backed by a highly specialized company obsessed with eco-driving, using state-of-the-art techniques to overcome the limitations of more generalist solutions”, as the company presents itself. Bledsystem offers eco-driving SaaS tools and services for public transport operators and integrators internationally, claiming savings of consumption between 6 and 10%.

Bledsystem is also cooperating with Casabus fleet operated by ALSA Maroc in the cities of Casablanca, Mohammadia, Nouaceur and Mediouna (a new supply for 700 buses was awarded in July).

A signal on the bus dashboard will be reporting to the driver about the sustainability level of his/her driver behaviour. ATM, still according the the newspaper, is also planning an actual contest to reward the most virtuous drivers with very low consumption driving.

Bledsystem’s CEO, Abel Rionda, comments: “We are honoured to work with ATM as its platform to help the company meets their indicator targets for passenger comfort, safety and sustainability.
