At Busworld Europe 2025, VDL is preparing a double debut that goes beyond product news. With the launch of the third-generation Futura and the creation of VDL Bus Group, the Dutch industrial group is signaling a new chapter for its bus and coach activities.

VDL Bus Group to debut at Busworld Europe 2025

The VDL Futura 3 will be unveiled to the public for the first time in Brussels. Developed over several years, the new coach introduces a redesigned aerodynamic exterior, a new interior concept focused on passenger comfort and ergonomics, and a driver’s area with improved sightlines and digital support, as the manufacturer states. Safety systems have been updated to comply with the latest European General Safety Regulation (GSR), while a modular powertrain architecture ensures readiness for future technologies. A key promise is improved efficiency, with fuel consumption reduced by up to 15% according to VDL.

Equally significant is the official integration of VDL Bus & Coach and VDL Van Hool into a single company, following the take over of the bus division of the bankrupt Van Hool last year: VDL Bus Group. The new structure will operate with two brands, VDL and Van Hool, each maintaining its own identity while benefiting from shared expertise, industrial synergies, and complementary market focus. Production is organized geographically: VDL Citea for public transport in Roeselare, Belgium (where city bus production is centralized); Futura coaches in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands; and Van Hool coaches in Macedonia.

At Busworld, VDL Bus Group will showcase five vehicles: two Futura 3 coaches, a 13.5-metre Citea Low Entry, and on behalf of Van Hool, an Astron super high-decker and an Astromega double-decker.
