Škoda Group announces it has entered into a strategic partnership with Microvast to co-develop and produce battery systems for public transport vehicles. The cooperation focuses initially on rail applications, however “The design of these battery systems will also allow them to be used in other types of public transport vehicles, such as electric buses“, the partners say.

The first prototype vehicle equipped with the jointly developed battery system is expected by the end of 2026. Microvast is known in the e-bus business for being the cell supplier of FPT Industrial batteries adopted by Iveco’s electric buses, both city and intercity.

The agreement brings together two areas of expertise: Microvast’s experience in the design and manufacture of battery cells, modules, and packs, and Škoda Group’s know-how in the engineering and certification of rail and trolleybus vehicles. The partnership will concentrate on creating battery systems tailored to the operational demands of rail transport, with modular flexibility that allows integration into other public transport modes.
