Irizar delivers 31 battery-electric buses to GZM in Poland for operations in Upper Silesia

Polish carrier GZM has presented a new fleet of 31 Irizar ie bus battery-electric vehicles that will operate across four cities in southern Poland.

Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia (GZM) has officially presented a fleet of 31 new Irizar ie battery-electric buses that will soon enter service in the Polish cities of Sosnowiec, Świerklaniec, Katowice and Gliwice. The delivery forms part of the metropolitan authority’s ongoing fleet renewal programme and expands the deployment of zero-emission buses across the Upper Silesian metropolitan area.

The new vehicles comprise 16 articulated 18-metre buses and 15 standard 12-metre buses.

The delivery, announced by Irizar e-mobility via Linkedin, follows the contract awarded by GZM to Irizar e-mobility for 31 electric buses, announced in late 2025 alongside further Polish orders in Warsaw, Krakow, Bielsko-Biała and Nowy Sącz. The agreement with GZM was part of a broader package of approximately 80 electric buses secured by the Spanish manufacturer across five Polish cities.

GZM expands its electric bus fleet

The newly introduced vehicles will be distributed across several municipalities within the metropolitan transport system.

According to Hungarian trade publication Magyarbusz[info], alongside the 31 vehicles, the manufacturer supplied and installed 20 depot chargers, comprising eighteen dual 80 kW units (2×40 kW), one triple 120 kW charger (3×40 kW) and one 180 kW charger (3×60 kW), including the associated electrical infrastructure from design through commissioning. The publication also reports that the Irizar portion of the “Zielony Transport GZM” project represented an investment of PLN 133.7 million, with more than 91% of eligible costs covered through Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO).

The presentation of the GZM fleet marks the latest delivery by Irizar e-mobility in Poland, where the manufacturer has recently secured multiple contracts with municipal operators. The company’s current orderbook in the country includes deliveries for MZA Warsaw, MPK Kraków, MZK Bielsko-Biała and MPK Nowy Sącz, in addition to the vehicles supplied to GZM.
