Swedish public transport authority Svealandstrafiken has placed an order for 73 electric buses from Volvo Buses, according to Swedish trade media Bussmagasinet.se. This order replaces previous agreements with Ebusco for some electric buses. The PTA has already 17 electric buses from Volvo Buses in operation in Västerås. The new Volvo buses are said to partly replace older buses and partly be used for expanding services.

Ebusco had won a first contract in Sweden in June 2022 for a fleet of articulated 3.0 models to be in operation for Svealandstrafiken by second half of 2023. Same expected time of delivery as a second order achieved in late 2022 for 13 articulated e-buses. A third contract came in March 2023 for up to 64 units.

Svealandstrafiken orders 73 e-buses from Volvo

At the moment, Ebusco is implementing a turnaround plan focusing on switching to an Original Equipment Designer (OED) model and rationalizing its production footprint, as CEO Christian Schreyer discussed with Sustainable Bus in this interview.

The order with Volvo Buses includes:

  • 13 articulated buses for urban transport in Örebro (delivered early 2026)
  • 60 buses for regional transport in Örebro and Västmanland counties

The deal with Volvo also includes options for the delivery of additional buses from Volvo. The vehicles are set to be manufactured by MCV on Volvo’s chassis, following the partnership signed in 2023.

Svealandstrafiken has also agreed to cancel two out of three previous agreements with Ebusco for electric buses. The remaining agreement with the Dutch OEM is for 23 electric buses for the City Line in Örebro ( the ones awarded in June 2022).

This will bring the total number of electric buses in Örebro city transport to 36
