Transdev Group has acquired 10 new e.City Gold electric buses from CaetanoBus, following an international tender. These units will join the four already in operation in the city of Aveiro in the first half of 2023, the manufacturer announces.

In addition to the buses, the entire charging infrastructure will also be supplied, which will include five Siemens Sicharge UC 100 chargers and 10 Siemens dispensers, also manufactured in Portugal. The project also includes the Depot Finity charging management software, also by Siemens.

CaetanoBus is cooperating with Spanish bodybuilder UNVI on a e-bus model built for Spanish market. Also in summer 2022 the Portuguese manufacturer has announced an agreement with Industria Italiana Autobus to start the production and marketing in Italy of hydrogen-powered city buses based on Toyota Fuel Cell technology and an H2.City Power Kit.

New batteries on CaetanoBus e-buses

The buses will have a new version of batteries, with greater autonomy, which will allow the operator to carry out the different routes of the city without the need for intermediate charging throughout the day, CaetanoBus states. Besides this, the vehicles will be equipped with the most recent air conditioning and heat pump systems, driving support safety systems for the driver and passengers – camera rear-view system (replacing the mirrors), systems to warn of the presence of pedestrians, bicycles and scooters in places of low visibility on urban routes, eliminating the danger of blind spots, and active and passive safety systems, such as the distance radar for the vehicle in front, the lane change warning system, among others.

Nuno Lago de Carvalho, Chief Commercial Officer of CaetanoBus, highlights: “we are proud to be the best positioned company in a highly demanding international tender where the CaetanoBus battery electric buses were the choice of the Transdev Group. We are happy to deserve the confidence of a prestigious operator like Transdev, to be able to contribute with 10 more zero-emission buses that will help to decarbonize another Portuguese city and in particular because this order supports the national industry with a proven record of producing state-of-the-art buses that contribute to a clean and excellent public transport service”.
