MAN Truck & Bus has received an order for 112 fully electric Lion’s City E buses for Vilnius, Lithuania.
The Lithuanian capital’s public transport operator Vilniaus viešasis transportas, VVT, has signed two contracts with MAN Truck & Bus for 84 12-metre solo buses and 28 18-metre articulated buses respectively. According to MAN Truck & Bus, the procurement represents the largest electric bus order ever recorded in Lithuania. Such an investment in electric public transport was anticipated in early 2025. Vilnius has also commissioned large batch of trolleybuses to Skoda, back in 2023, and, in 2025, to Solaris.
MAN Truck & Bus states that more than 3,300 Lion’s City E buses have been produced and delivered since the model’s market launch in 2019. Looking at the 2025 European electric bus market figures, sales of MAN e-buses grew by 118 percent compared to the previous year – a new record with more than 1,300 vehicles sold. Today, roughly one in every two MAN city buses sold in Europe is electrically powered. In Q1 2026, MAN delivered roughly 200 e-buses as the bus sales grew 6%.
VVT orders MAN Lion’s City E buses
The new vehicles will replace part of VVT’s diesel bus fleet. The first buses are scheduled to arrive in Vilnius later in 2026, with deliveries continuing until the end of 2027.
The vehicles will be supplied in Lithuania by ADAMPOLIS, MAN’s exclusive local partner, which will also provide technical maintenance for five years.
Depending on configuration, the MAN Lion’s City E offers a range of up to 380 kilometres. The buses ordered for Vilnius will include air conditioning, passenger information systems, Wi-Fi and charging options for mobile devices.
According to MAN Truck & Bus, sales of MAN electric buses increased by 118 percent in fiscal year 2025 compared with the previous year, with more than 1,300 units sold. The company adds that around one in two MAN city buses sold in Europe is now electrically powered.
MAN has recently started series production of the Lion’s City E at its Ankara plant in Turkey, alongside the existing production sites in Starachowice, Poland, and Olifantsfontein, South Africa.
“This order is further impressive proof of the MAN Lion’s City E’s strong market position in Europe. Vilnius is placing its trust in our proven technology, thereby sending a strong signal for the future of zero-emission public transport – far beyond Lithuania’s borders,” says Robert Katzer, Head of Sales & Product Bus at MAN Truck & Bus.
“We are consistently phasing out polluting vehicles and transitioning to cleaner, quieter, and more efficient solutions. The expansion of electric buses allows us not only to improve the quality of public transport but also to move steadily toward a climate-neutral city,” says Valdas Benkunskas, Mayor of Vilnius.
Ignas Degutis, CEO of VVT, adds: “This is a project of exceptional scale and complexity, not only in Vilnius but across Lithuania. Today marks an important stage – the acquisition of electric buses. At the same time, we are implementing parallel developments, including charging infrastructure, power capacity, depot upgrades, and new operational models. This is a long-term transformation that will reshape not only the vehicle fleet but also the overall approach to public transport operations.”
