The Omnibusspiegel E-Bus Test 2026 is underway in Bonn from 23 to 27 March, featuring a test program with a strong focus on fuel cell buses, following 2025’s lens on 12-meter BEV buses and scrutiny of articulated e-buses in 2024.
The annual initiative, organized by German trade media Omnibusspiegel and supported by the local public transport operator Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB), brings together a range of zero-emission bus technologies for a week-long testing program combining depot-based inspections and simulated urban operations.

Hydrogen bus technologies under evaluation in Bonn
The 2026 test cycle includes multiple fuel cell bus models from European and international manufacturers. Vehicles under evaluation comprise the Wisdom Motor HY-X 12 (based on a cooperation established in 2025), the eCitaro Fuel Cell, the MCV C127 FC LE presented at Busworld Europe 2025, the Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen, and the Wrightbus Kite Hydroliner.
These vehicles are subjected to a structured testing protocol that includes static assessments in depot conditions and dynamic trials on a dedicated urban circuit. The methodology allows for consistent comparison of vehicle performance across parameters such as energy consumption, operational range, and system integration within simulated service conditions.

The inclusion of multiple hydrogen platforms aligns with broader market data indicating a rise in fuel cell bus adoption in Europe, where registrations reached over 550 units in 2025, with Germany accounting for the majority of deployments.
Battery-electric midibuses and additional vehicles on display
Alongside fuel cell buses, the event features a selection of battery-electric midibuses, including the Anadolu Isuzu Novociti Volt, the Tremonia Mobility Sprinter City 75 Electric, and the Wisdom Sigma
Two additional battery-electric buses, the BMC Procity+ 12 EV and the BYD B12.b, unveiled late last year, are presented as non-competing vehicles, expanding the technological overview available during the event without being included in the comparative testing program.
