Solaris announces it has secured an order for 101 electric buses from VR Sverige for operations in Stockholm.

The new contract follows a recent 103-units award in Sweden for low-entry electric buses to Nobina, which will also partially be used in Stockholm. In addition, Solaris is currently executing another contract for the same operator, awarded in summer 2025, covering 81 Urbino 15 LE electric buses.

Nearly 300 electric buses have already been supplied by Solaris in Sweden. With ongoing and newly awarded contracts, including the two agreements with VR Sverige, Solaris states that total deliveries in the market will exceed 550 units.

Solaris to deliver electric buses to VR Sverige

The agreement with VR Sverige includes the supply of 101 battery-electric buses across four different vehicle lengths. The order comprises 5 Urbino 9 LE electric units, 47 Urbino 12 electric buses equipped with modular drive, 22 Urbino 15 LE electric units, and 27 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses, also featuring modular drive architecture.

All vehicles are intended for deployment in the Stockholm area.

Each bus will be equipped with an electric drivetrain and Solaris High Energy battery packs. Battery capacity will be configured according to vehicle type and route requirements, with specifications designed to support full-day operation without intermediate charging. The buses will include air conditioning, passenger information systems and driver assistance features.

“We are proud to continue and strengthen our collaboration with VR Sverige. This partnership marks an important milestone for us, as it establishes a significant foothold in the Swedish capital. Expanding our presence in Stockholm not only reflects the trust placed in us by VR Sverige, but also underlines our long-term commitment to delivering high-quality solutions and services in the region”, says Sverre Skaar, CEO of Solaris Sverige AB.

“This order represents a significant step toward sustainable, electrified bus transport. It contributes to emissions reduction, supports VR’s environmental objectives, and ensures the provision of reliable, high-quality services in our bus contracts, while fostering a safe and supportive environment for drivers and maintenance personnel”, says Anders Frykman, Bus Director at VR Sverige.
