The September 2026 issue of Sustainable Bus Magazine is out, with distribution scheduled at FIAA in Madrid and APTA TRANSform & EXPO in Chicago.

The new edition combines market analysis, autonomous driving, fleet electrification and vehicle technology, with dedicated coverage of the U.S. zero-emission bus market and recent studies on the deployment of autonomous vehicles in public transport. The issue also includes interviews with SASA and HEAG mobilo and technical presentations of new and updated bus platforms from Irizar, Menarini and Temsa.

The magazine will be available at FIAA, taking place in Madrid from 22 to 24 September, where Sustainable Bus will also hold the second 2026 session of the Sustainable Bus Tour on 23 September.

Copies will subsequently be distributed at APTA TRANSform & EXPO in Chicago on 5-7 October.

U.S. zero-emission buses and autonomous transport

The Outlook section examines the U.S. zero-emission bus market using Catalyst Mobility data (formerly known as CALSTART). Its “Zeroing in on Zero-Emission Buses” report counted 8,116 full-size zero-emission buses funded, ordered, delivered or deployed nationwide as of July 2025, up 16 percent from the previous reporting year, plus 1,398 small zero-emission buses.

Autonomous public transport is addressed through studies from movingfutures, DB Regio and UITP covering fleet volumes and operating models. The section also reports on ÖBB Postbus’s trial of the 6.6-metre Otokar e-Centro Autonomous in Alpbach, Austria.

Irizar, Menarini and Temsa in the technical section

The vehicle section features the Irizar ie tram Efficient, equipped with fourth-generation NMC batteries with capacity up to 714 kWh; Menarini’s Electrocity range, comprising Flash and Airon models, presented at NME in Milan earlier this year; and Temsa’s 9.5-metre Avenue Neo 9e, offered with 192, 288 or 384 kWh battery configurations. This latter model was seen at Busworld Europe 2025 and Busworld Turkey 2026.

Interviews focus on SASA General Manager Ruggero Rossi De Mio and HEAG mobilo Managing Director Arne Rath, covering battery-electric and hydrogen buses, charging and refuelling infrastructure, procurement and fleet transition.

The next Sustainable Bus Magazine issue is scheduled for November 2026, with print distribution at Euro Bus Expo in Birmingham on 3-5 November and IBE Intermobility and Bus Expo in Rimini on 24-26 November.
