Switch Mobility has secured an order from Sai Green Projects for 650 nine-metre electric buses to be deployed in Mumbai and Pune under India’s PM E-Drive Phase II programme. The new awarding was made public in late July.

The buses will be supplied under the CESL PM E-Drive Phase II tender awarded to Sai Green Projects as selected operator. According to Switch Mobility, the vehicles will enter public transport operations serving Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in Mumbai and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) in Pune.

Switch Mobility also ranked first in India’s electric bus market in the first half of 2026, with 830 registrations and a 28.2% market share, according to Vahan Dashboard data. India registered 2,944 electric buses in the period, up 40% year-on-year.

The order follows the July 2026 introduction of Switch Mobility’s 9-metre EiV9 electric bus at Prawaas 5.0, a model developed for urban operations with modular battery configurations and dual-gun CCS2 fast charging.

650 Switch electric buses for BEST and PMPML

The order covers nine-metre electric buses in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned configurations. Switch Mobility states that the AC buses will serve BEST, while the non-AC vehicles will be deployed for PMPML.

The manufacturer did not provide details on the delivery schedule, battery configuration, range or charging infrastructure in its announcement.

The order is being implemented within the Government of India’s PM E-Drive Phase II framework, with Sai Green Projects acting as the selected operator and Switch Mobility supplying the vehicles.

Switch Mobility expands electric bus deliveries in India

According to Switch Mobility, more than 2,500 of its electric buses have been deployed in India. The company also states that its electric vehicles have collectively covered more than 185 million kilometres globally.

The manufacturer currently addresses city, intercity and specialised electric bus applications, according to information released with the announcement.
