Optibus announces it has launched a Demand Response Transport Planning feature with native GTFS Flex support inside its Planning module.
The new function brings demand-response service design into the same planning environment used for fixed-route networks, according to Optibus. The feature is designed for agencies and operators planning flexible services alongside conventional bus routes.
Optibus adds DRT Planning to fixed-route network tools
Optibus says the new DRT Planning feature allows users to import, define and manage service zones, build flexible routes and configure service rules, including prior-notice booking requirements.
The module also allows planners to view fixed and flexible routes on the same map. Dynamic visualisation tools show DRT service behaviour, including multi-zone networks.
According to Optibus, the feature is intended to reduce the use of separate GIS applications or external software for demand-response planning workflows.
The launch includes native GTFS Flex import and export within the planning workflow. GTFS Flex extends the GTFS data standard to include booking rules, zone definitions and service logic for demand-response services.
Optibus says agencies can model flexible services in the platform and publish them in GTFS Flex format, allowing riders to discover and plan trips through passenger-facing applications that support the standard.
“Our goal is to empower agencies to bring all of their services – fixed and flexible – into a single, sophisticated planning environment. With the launch of Optibus’ DRT Planning and our support for GTFS Flex, the public transportation industry gains valuable tools for improving service quality, reaching underserved communities more efficiently, and treating demand response service as a first-class part of the network”, says Amos Haggiag, CEO and co-founder, Optibus.
