Hungarian manufacturer Ikarus announces it has been awarded a contract to supply 150 electric buses in North Macedonia, marking its largest electric bus procurement to date.

The procurement was launched in February 2026, with Electrobus Europe Ltd., a member of the Ikarus Group and result of the partnership between Ikarus and Chinese CRRC, selected as the winning bidder, as Ikarus states in a press note released on April 30th. The contract covers the delivery of 150 battery-electric urban solo buses alongside 75 charging stations, representing the highest unit-volume electric bus order secured by Ikarus so far.

The procurement includes the allocation of 100 vehicles for the capital Skopje, while the remaining 50 units are designated for deployment across other cities in the country.

The contract introduces a fleet of purely electric-drive buses into multiple urban networks within North Macedonia, with associated charging infrastructure included in the scope. The 75 charging stations are part of the same procurement framework and will support the operation of the delivered vehicles.

“The opportunity for this outstanding new order by volume demonstrates a strong validation of Ikarus’s technical preparedness and international competitiveness, and is a key milestone in the successful implementation of our company’s market strategy, through which we reinforce our position in the electric vehicle market of Central and South-Eastern Europe. We are particularly proud that our offer is built on the collaboration of multiple nations and cultures, and that at key points of implementation we can rely on the expertise of local North Macedonian companies”, says János Hunor Kelemen, Sales Director of the Ikarus Group.
