Solaris wins Ostrava tender (Czech Republic) for up to 70 Urbino 12 electric buses

Solaris has signed a contract with Dopravní podnik Ostrava for the supply of up to 70 Urbino 12 electric buses, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

Solaris has secured a new battery-electric bus contract in the Czech Republic after submitting the most advantageous bid in a tender launched by Ostrava public transport operator Dopravní podnik Ostrava (DPO). According to Solaris, the agreement covers up to 70 twelve-metre Urbino 12 electric buses and ranks among the largest electric bus tenders completed to date in the country.

The procurement is also one of the largest vehicle purchases in DPO’s history, Solaris states. The first buses covered by the agreement could enter service in Ostrava in 2027, with deliveries continuing into 2028.

Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses in two battery configurations

The contract includes two configurations of the 12-metre Solaris Urbino electric, with different battery capacities and specified operating ranges.

According to Solaris, the first version will provide a range of up to 350 kilometres on a single charge, while the second configuration will offer up to 250 kilometres. The two specifications are intended for different transport tasks within DPO’s network.

Charging will be performed through plug-in connections, primarily during overnight depot stops. Solaris states that all vehicles will feature air conditioning, safety systems and equipment for passenger comfort.

Ostrava’s Solaris fleet already exceeds 450 buses and trolleybuses

The new procurement follows previous deliveries from Solaris to the Ostrava operator. According to the Polish manufacturer, more than 450 Solaris buses and trolleybuses have been supplied to the Czech city to date.

In 2021, DPO ordered 24 Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses together with the related charging infrastructure. Solaris states that the order represented its first electric bus contract in the Czech Republic.

The latest agreement will add up to 70 further battery-electric vehicles to the operator’s fleet during the 2027–2028 delivery period.
