Axles and transmissions supplier BRIST has introduced a specialized driveline package tailored for airport buses, featuring its latest IDS CEN 120-225 and IS 120-225 axles. According to BRIST, these advanced axles are designed to elevate both performance and maneuverability in airport bus operations, facilitating smoother navigation in high-traffic environments.

The company, based close to Brescia in Italy, has been well-known in minibus, midibus and BRT segment, and now is expanding its e-mobility portfolio into full-size bus segment including city and intercity buses. Their references include well-known EV manufacturers such as Hyundai, Alexander Dennis (NFI Group), Karsan, Anadolu Isuzu, Bluebus and CRRC.

At Busworld Europe 2023 in Brussels they unveiled their own Corner e-Drive electric axle, aimed at increasing the efficiency, balance and structure of electric vehicles. Earlier this year the company exhibited its brand new low floor electric bus e-axle technology eCOR225 LF at ACT Expo in Las Vegas and Busworld Turkey.

Back to the segment of airport buses, BRIST-made IDS CEN 120-225 model, developed as a front driven axle, boasts what the company describes as a best-in-class 42° inner wheel steer angle, enhancing flexibility in tight airport spaces. Additionally, BRIST states that its design includes two reduction stages—one in the differential unit and one in the hub — optimizing weight distribution and ensuring a smoother ride, which the supplier emphasizes as critical for passenger comfort. This axle supports a maximum load of 12 tons, which BRIST highlights as suitable for heavy-duty airport transport requirements.

The IS 120-225 rear independent suspension axle, as noted by BRIST, focuses on expanding the bus corridor width to 1,112 mm, increasing passenger space while retaining dynamic stability and comfort. Similar to the IDS CEN 120-225, it can support a load of up to 12 tons.

This axle combination is currently in operation with BMC Neoport buses in prominent airports worldwide, including Istanbul Airport in Turkey, Saudi Amad for Airport Services & Transport in Saudi Arabia, and Hazret-Sultan International Airport in Kazakhstan.
