Hanoi public transport operator Transerco has introduced 53 new VinFast electric buses on four routes on 5 and 6 October 2026, replacing diesel vehicles as the Vietnamese capital pursues full conversion of its public bus fleet to electric and green-energy vehicles by 2030.
The deployment comprises 28 VinFast Green Bus vehicles on routes 22A and 22B, followed by 25 VinFast EB8 buses on routes 30 and 50. All 53 vehicles were manufactured in 2026 and have a passenger capacity of 60. According to two official announcements issued by Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) on 5 and 6 October, the operator aims to increase the proportion of green-converted vehicles in its fleet to more than 51% by the end of 2026.
The deployment forms part of Hanoi’s municipal fleet transition programme, revised in May 2025 to establish a 2030 deadline for replacing all petrol- and diesel-powered public buses with electric and green-energy vehicles. Within the central urban area inside Ring Road 4, the plan requires all operating buses to be electric.
The new vehicles join an established electric bus network in Hanoi. During our visit to VinFast and VinBus operations in Hanoi in May 2026, approximately 2,000 electric buses were reported in the city, including around 600 operated directly by VinFast’s sister company VinBus. The latter’s fleet had accumulated approximately 73 million kilometres by the end of 2025.
Transerco introduces 53 VinFast electric buses on four Hanoi routes
On 5 October 2026, Transerco subsidiary Cau Buou Bus Enterprise introduced 28 medium-capacity VinFast Green Bus electric vehicles on route 22A, connecting Gia Lam Bus Station with Kien Hung Urban Area, and route 22B, connecting Giap Bat Bus Station with Do Nghia.
The vehicles replace diesel buses previously operating on the two services. Each bus has a capacity of 60 passengers and features a low-floor configuration and equipment for passengers with disabilities.
The new buses carry the green Hanoibus livery, incorporating decorative elements representing the peace dove and Khue Van Cac, a landmark associated with Hanoi’s Temple of Literature.
A second deployment followed on 6 October, when Transerco’s South Hanoi Passenger Transport Enterprise introduced 25 VinFast EB8 electric buses on route 30, connecting My Dinh Bus Station with Gamuda Urban Area, and route 50, connecting Long Bien with An Lac Urban Area in Hoai Duc.
These vehicles also replace existing diesel buses. The VinFast EB8 units have a capacity of 60 passengers and were manufactured in 2026. According to Transerco, the buses feature low floors, accessibility equipment and the Hanoibus green exterior design.
The EB8 is also part of VinFast’s international electric bus programme. The manufacturer presented the EB8 and EB12 for the European market at Busworld Europe 2025. European-specification EB8 and EB12 models were under development as of this spring. The plant reported an annual bus production capacity of 3,000 units. Now the manufacturer is also targeting the US transit bus market.
The operator confirmed that the two consecutive deployments, totalling 53 electric buses, form part of its fleet conversion programme for the final months of 2026. Transerco has established a target of exceeding 51% green-converted vehicles in its fleet by the end of the year.
The second phase, covering 2027–2030, provides for the progressive replacement of the remaining petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles, with full conversion required by the end of the period.
Hanoi’s 2030 deadline is 20 years ahead of the national 2050 target established under Decision No. 876/QD-TTg of 22 July 2022, which approved Vietnam’s transport-sector programme for green-energy transition and reductions in carbon and methane emissions.
Electric bus operations in Hanoi began in December 2021. According to figures released by the Hanoi Transport Management and Operation Centre and published by Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction in 2025, the city’s electric buses transported nearly 100 million passengers during approximately three years of operation.
