New Flyer announced that the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has awarded it a new five-year contract to supply 12-meter battery electric buses. The overall contract includes an order for 186 Xcelsior CHARGE NG, as well as an option for TTC to purchase up to 435 buses of the same type, for a total potential order of 621 buses over the life of the contract.

These next-generation battery electric buses will help TTC, which operates one of the largest fleets of battery electric buses in North America, achieve its goal of converting its entire fleet to zero emissions by 2040.

“Building on our partnership with the TTC of more than half a century, this new order supports the TTC’s efforts toward net zero goals for a healthier and more sustainable future,” said Chris Stoddart, president of North American Bus and Coach, NFI. Who added: “We are proud of the active in-service trial and are excited to add to the TTC’s New Flyer fleet. The ability for TTC to have a common fleet with different propulsion systems is indicative of our design and supportability”.
