Irizar has presented the second generation of its fuel cell coach i6S Efficient H2 FCEV.

The launch took place during the general assembly of SHYNE, the Spanish Hydrogen Network. The new vehicle, Irizar states, has completed the required type-approval process and is scheduled to enter passenger service with Spanish operator Alsa in Madrid during the summer months.

New generation Irizar i6S Efficient H2 FCEV goes live

The updated i6S Efficient H2 FCEV introduces a series of technical improvements compared with the first-generation model unveiled at Busworld in 2023 and road-tested in 2025. According to Irizar, the new version offers increased passenger and luggage capacity, a longer operating range and a lower overall vehicle weight. No further information or details have been released so far.

The coach combines a hydrogen fuel cell system with an electric driveline developed for medium- and long-distance operations. Refuelling can be completed in approximately ten minutes, while the vehicle is capable of travelling more than 1,000 kilometres on a single fill. Irizar states that the coach maintains operating performance and commercial characteristics comparable to those of conventional diesel-powered vehicles.

The second-generation vehicle follows the introduction of the first Irizar hydrogen coach at Busworld in late 2023. That vehicle completed a 2,500-kilometre journey between Ormaiztegi, home to Irizar’s headquarters, and Briançon in the French Alps.
