Solaris has opened a new assembly hall in Środa Wielkopolska that will add capacity for around 500 buses per year, while announcing plans for a second manufacturing facility on a 47-hectare site targeted for operation in 2029

The investment is intended to increase manufacturing capacity and support the company’s activities in the low- and zero-emission bus market across Europe.

The new facility is located around 35 km southeast of Poznań, in Środa Wielkopolska, where Solaris has operated a steel-frame welding plant since 1998. The site complements the company’s main manufacturing complex in Bolechowo, north of Poznań, where final assembly activities have traditionally been concentrated.

New Solaris assembly operations launched in Środa Wielkopolska

Until now, final assembly operations for Solaris city buses had been carried out exclusively at the company’s Bolechowo site near Poznań. With the commissioning of the new hall, final assembly activities will now be performed simultaneously at both locations.

According to Solaris, the additional production infrastructure will increase the manufacturer’s capacity by approximately 500 vehicles per year. The investment forms part of the company’s objective of reaching annual production and sales volumes of 2,000 vehicles, a target that seems achievable as soon as the plant will be fully operational, given that in 2025 Solaris reported it has delivered 1,631 buses (86% of those being low or zero emission). In the first quarter of 2026 the company ranked second among top sellers of zero emission buses in the EU.

Solaris has not disclosed the value of the investment associated with the new assembly hall in Środa Wielkopolska. The company has also not specified whether the project benefited from public funding, subsidies or other forms of financial support.

In brief

  • What is the purpose of the new Solaris facility? The hall is dedicated to the final assembly of city buses. Solaris states that the new facility adds capacity for approximately 500 vehicles per year.
  • How many vehicles did Solaris deliver in 2025? The company delivered 1,631 vehicles, of which 86% were low- and zero-emission models.
  • What are Solaris’ next expansion plans in Środa Wielkopolska?
The company plans to build another factory dedicated to intercity buses, with operations expected to begin in 2029.

The new plant has generated nearly 300 direct jobs, the manufacturer stresses. Solaris also states that several hundred additional positions have been created indirectly through regional suppliers involved in the production chain.

Production growth supports expanding market activities

The expansion of manufacturing capacity comes as Solaris continues to develop its presence in existing and new markets. The company states that it has begun fulfilling its first orders in North America, including projects in the United States and Canada. Launch of dedicated models for the North American market is planned for APTA expo in Chicago in October. In Europe, the manufacturer is going to expand its portfolio in the intercity bus segment with a new platform announced already in 2024 and expected for launch between end 2026 and early 2027.

These developments are accompanied by additional industrial investment plans. Alongside the inauguration of the new assembly hall, Solaris announced its intention to build another manufacturing facility in the Środa Wielkopolska municipality. The company has already secured 47 hectares of land for the project. “The planned factory, which will also be dedicated to intercity buses, is expected to reach operational readiness in 2029”, the company states.

“We are investing in expanding our production capacity and product portfolio to meet the growing demand for sustainable transport in Europe and in new markets,” said Agata Stańda, CEO of Solaris.
