“Bus of the Year” and “Ecological Bus of the Year”. Two awards, one winner: the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro Fuel Cell. The electric “Star” with hydrogen range extender took home the two awards in Spain at the national competition organized by Editec.

A jury of 817 transportation company executives and technical experts evaluated the participating passenger vehicles in several categories. Twenty-four companies took part in the competition with a total of 28 models. And the fuel cell-powered Mercedes-Benz eCitaro convinced the expert jury by two in the two categories: the combination of battery electric drive and fuel cell for range extension allows a range of up to 400 km without recharging for medium-distance mission profiles.

Unlike hydrogen buses with a small battery buffer, the fuel cell is not used as the main power source, but only to extend the range.
