Yutong has presented the new generation of its 12-meter battery-electric double-decker bus, the U12DD, at a ceremony held at the company’s premises in Zhengzhou, China. The electric bus launch follows the introduction, in 2023, of the U11DD vehicle (11-meter long) tailored for the UK market (74 units were delivered in January 2025, Yutong explains).

In March 2025 the Chinese manufacturer has also announced the introduction of the IC12E model, a battery-electric intercity bus designed for long-range operations, set to join the nascent European intercity electric bus market.

Designed with both urban transit and sightseeing applications in mind, the Yutong U12DD features a three-door configuration, dual staircases, and a maximum passenger capacity of 120.

Yutong U12DD launched: the debut in Singapore

With over 40 countries and regions already operating its electric buses, Yutong positions the U12DD as part of its broader strategy to support the global transition to low-emission public transportation. The company reports cumulative sales of nearly 200,000 new energy buses to date. The Yutong U12DD will debut in Singapore, where the previous generation of the model is already in operation.

According to Yutong, the U12DD introduces a series of improvements aimed at increasing safety, energy efficiency, and operational reliability. The vehicle is equipped with the company’s proprietary YESS battery safety system, while its battery, motor, and electric control components meet the highest levels of water and dust protection (IP68+IP6K9K). The use of an all-aluminum body reduces weight by 1,300 kg compared to traditional steel structures.

The double-decker is powered by a 621 kWh battery pack, which supports a reported range of up to 670 kilometers under SORT2 test conditions, Yutong states. Fast charging capability via a dual-gun system allows for full charging within two hours at up to 350 kW. Yutong cites an energy consumption rate of 0.81 kWh/km.

The use of SiC silicon carbide controllers and variable-frequency water pumps enables energy consumption’s cut by 10%, still in the OEM’s words.

On the digital front, the bus includes Yutong’s Link+ fleet management and intelligent cockpit systems. These tools enable remote diagnostics, fleet coordination, and vehicle monitoring, which the company says will help reduce operational downtime and maintenance needs over the vehicle’s lifespan.
