Switch Mobility has introduced its new 9-metre electric bus EiV9 at the Prawaas 5.0 transport exhibition in India, alongside an updated version of its EiV12 Intercity electric bus (a model that was recently delivered in Chennai).

Switch Mobility ranked first with 830 registrations in the sum up of Indian e-bus market in the first half of 2026, corresponding to a 28.2% market share.

Switch Mobility states that it has deployed over 2,400 electric buses globally, covering more than 150 million kilometres of operations, alongside over 2,500 electric light commercial vehicles currently in service.

At the same Prawaas 5.0 expo, EKA Mobility is launching a new 9-metre electric school bus and Tata has introduced the new Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime bus range.

The launch of the all-new Switch EiV9 marks an important milestone in our growth journey as we strengthen our presence across key public and institutional mobility segments. We see strong momentum in this category, with the 9m electric bus market expected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 34% by FY30, driven by increasing demand.

SWITCH EiV9 platform and technical configuration

The EiV9 is built on a dedicated 9-metre electric bus platform designed for urban operations. The vehicle reportedly integrates a lightweight structure and an electric driveline architecture aimed at optimizing energy consumption and operational performance.

The bus is equipped with a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) motor delivering up to 213 kW of peak power. Battery configurations are modular, allowing multiple pack options depending on route requirements and duty cycles. Charging is enabled through dual-gun CCS2 fast charging, while regenerative braking is included to support energy recovery during operation.

Operational flexibility is supported through these configurable battery setups and charging solutions, enabling deployment across different service profiles.

Interior layout, passenger features and safety systems

The vehicle is fitted with front and rear air suspension systems. Passenger amenities include individual USB charging points and seating configurations adaptable for different use cases, including pushback seating for staff transport.

Safety systems on board include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) and disc brakes on both axles. The vehicle architecture is designed to support operations across varying environmental and operating conditions.

EiV12 Intercity showcased alongside EiV9

At the same event, Switch Mobility displayed an updated version of its EiV12 Intercity electric bus. The model is configured for long-distance operations and includes reclining seats and multi-port charging points for passengers.

The EiV12 Intercity integrates floor-mounted LFP batteries, contributing to a lower centre of gravity. It also features front and rear air suspension, dual-gun DC fast charging, and driver-focused elements such as a pneumatic suspension seat and camera-based digital mirrors.

The vehicle is equipped with the Switch iON connected platform, which provides real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring, and battery management functionalities.

#SwitchKaro campaign introduced

Switch Mobility launched the #SwitchKaro campaign in parallel with the EiV9 unveiling. The initiative is presented as a communication platform aimed at fleet operators, businesses, and transport stakeholders.

The campaign focuses on electric mobility adoption across commercial transport segments and is positioned alongside the company’s vehicle portfolio developments.
