Tata Motors has introduced the new Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime bus range while presenting an expanded passenger mobility portfolio at Prawaas 5.0 in Gandhinagar, underway from 9 to 11 July.
Tata Motors, part of the USD 180 billion Tata Group, announced earlier this year that it has secured 500 e-bus orders as electric commercial vehicle bookings exceed 3,400 units. However, the group continued to represent a marginal share of e-bus registrations in the first half of 2026: Tata in fact accounted for 39.2% of e-bus registrations in 2024, 5.0% in 2025 and 2.4% in H1 2026, with 71 registered buses during the first six months of the year.
The Indian group is in the process of taking over Iveco Group following deal announced in September 2025, with closing of the transaction expected in Q3 2026.
At the same Prawaas 5.0 expo, EKA Mobility is launching a new 9-metre electric school bus.
Tata Motors expands passenger mobility portfolio at Prawaas 5.0
Back to Prawaas 2026, the launch of the Tata Ultra Prime and Tata Starbus Prime range formed the centerpiece of the company’s exhibition, alongside new CNG and battery-electric vehicles covering intercity, intracity, school, tourism and last-mile transport applications. The announcement was made by Tata Motors during the event.
With lower operating costs of the LPO 1620 CNG, enhanced safety and comfort of the new Ultra Prime range, and the expansion of electric mobility through the Ultra Skool 9/9 EV and Magic EV, each solution has been engineered to address a specific customer requirement

According to Tata Motors, the new-generation Ultra Prime and Starbus Prime buses feature updated exterior styling, redesigned interiors, improved ride quality and reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels.
The vehicles are equipped with 29 safety features, including a Driver Monitoring System, a 360-degree camera, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and RPAS. The range is intended for school, staff transportation and tourism applications. Tata Motors stated that the new portfolio has been developed to provide enhanced passenger comfort, safety and operational efficiency.
New CNG, electric and institutional mobility solutions
Among the vehicles presented was the Tata LPO 1620 CNG, a CNG-powered platform for intercity and intracity passenger transport designed to combine high passenger capacity with lower operating costs. Tata Motors also introduced the Ultra Prime LPO 412, a platform for tourism and long-distance transport applications.
The electric mobility portfolio included the Ultra Skool 9/9 EV, an electric school bus equipped with fast-charging capability, an extended operating range and advanced safety systems. Tata Motors also announced that the vehicle can be specified with an optional paint scheme and graphics intended to make travel more comfortable for neurodivergent children.
The company also displayed the Ultra Prime RE Concept for urban bus operations, presented in India for the first time. Tata Motors said the concept has been developed for city bus applications with a focus on passenger comfort, operational reliability, fleet productivity and vehicle uptime.
The exhibition also included the Magic EV, the company’s battery-electric last-mile passenger vehicle, offering a stated driving range of up to 120 km on a single charge, and the Winger Plus people mover for staff, institutional and tourism services.
Customer support network
Tata Motors stated that its passenger mobility products are supported by a nationwide network of more than 4,600 sales and service touchpoints. The company highlighted its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 service programme, providing 24/7 assistance, annual maintenance services and parts availability, together with the Tata Motors Fleet Management Solution and Tata Genuine Parts network.
