The Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen coach traveled 2,500 kilometers between the cities of Ormaiztegi, Spain, and Briançon, in the French Alps, showing a range of 900 kilometers during the road test.

With this test, Irizar broke the record for the longest distance ever traveled by a hydrogen-powered bus in Europe-a historic achievement.

The tourist from the Basque Country Oem thus successfully completed the round trip from between Ormaiztegi, where it is based: as mentioned, the total distance traveled was 2,500 kilometers, with the bus passing through several towns in the Pyrenees and Provence, before arriving in the French Alps, where it also overcame a total elevation gain of more than 1,400 meters.

During the journey, of course, the Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen was refueled several times at different stations, recording a complete refueling time of less than 20 minutes.

The Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen

The Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen is first unveiled at Busworld Europe in Brussels in 2023 and won the Coach of the Year award in Spain in 2024

The Basque OEM’s hydrogen coach generates power through an electrolysis process that takes place in the fuel cell, while traction is provided by a 510-horsepower electric motor with an integrated three-speed transmission. Irizar is now ready for mass production of the model.
