ZF presented new electrification, safety and digital technologies for buses at Busworld Turkey 2026, including the AxTrax 2 LF electric axle with condition monitoring capabilities and the e-comp Scroll air compressor launched last year.

At Busworld Turkey 2026 in Istanbul, ZF outlined its latest developments for the bus and coach sector, with a portfolio covering electric driveline technologies, advanced driver assistance systems, telematics and vehicle components designed for battery-electric, hybrid and fuel-cell applications.

At the same exhibition, Iveco Bus is introducing the Crossway LE on the local market while Otokar is presenting the e-Territo in Turkey for the first time.

AxTrax 2 LF electric axle approaches production phase

Among the technologies presented at the event was the AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle for city buses, which is expected to enter production shortly. The axle is part of ZF’s electric driveline kit and has been developed using standardized components and shared software modules across vehicle applications.

According to ZF, the latest generation of AxTrax 2 LF delivers average energy consumption savings of 20 percent in SORT operating cycles compared with its predecessor. The company states that these efficiency gains can support increased vehicle range and lower battery capacity requirements.

ZF also introduced a digital health-check software package for the axle. Offered as a software-as-a-service solution, the system remotely analyzes e-drive operating data and enables condition monitoring and early fault detection. The platform is intended to support fleet operators, OEMs and fleet management providers with detailed monitoring of electric driveline performance.

Oil-free compressed air solution for electrified buses

ZF also highlighted its e-comp Scroll air compressor, developed for medium- and heavy-duty hybrid, battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles.

The oil-free compressor uses two interlocking scrolls to generate compressed air while limiting noise and vibration levels. At a nominal operating point of 250 litres per minute, the system produces approximately 67 dB(A), according to ZF. The technology is designed to address noise, vibration and harshness requirements in increasingly quiet electrified commercial vehicles.

ZF’s ADAS portfolio aligned with GSR requirements

In the field of active safety, ZF presented its General Safety Regulation-compliant advanced driver assistance systems portfolio for buses.

The scalable platform combines cameras, radar sensors and software functions within an integrated architecture. Available functions include Intelligent Speed Assist, Blind Spot Information System, Driver Monitoring System and Event Data Recorder capabilities.

Digital services were another focus area of the company’s presentation in Istanbul, with ZF showcasing its ZF Bus Connect telematics platform.

The system connects multiple vehicle domains, including driveline, braking and auxiliary systems, enabling vehicle monitoring and fleet performance analysis. Recent developments include battery analytics functions and condition monitoring features for ZF driveline products such as the AxTrax 2 LF.

According to ZF, the telematics platform supports predictive maintenance strategies through the integration of operational data with vehicle systems, enabling continuous monitoring of key components across bus fleets.

“What we are showing at busworld Türkiye is how ZF is advancing its market position for the bus and coach industry across all technology areas,” said Frank Burkhart, Senior Vice President, Sales Bus & Coach, at ZF’s division Commercial Vehicle Solutions. “As a Tier-1 supplier providing solutions for electrification, safety and digitalization technologies, our focus is on aligning these areas into integrated systems to improve efficiency, safety and reliability while helping to reduce operating costs. Backed by our global development and manufacturing as well as a strong local service network, this approach allows us to scale innovative technologies efficiently across different markets and applications.”
